« More Display Houses News Articles Australia’s First Zero-Emission Home Design 05/04/2010 Recently reported about the Australia’s first Zero Emission House (AusZEH) will be officially opened in Melbourne. This according to the experts has been the latest home design to fit the Australia’s weather. The collaboration and joined project by the industry partners Delfin-Lend Lease and the Henley Property Group, and supported by the AusZEH consortium, CSIRO designed and built the demonstration homes in Australia 30 kilometres north of Melbourne’s CBD, in the community of Laurimar in Doreen, Victoria.
Almost 13 per cent of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions are due to home energy use. However with this eight-star energy-efficiency this AusZEH will be the answer to all the problems that affect the energy consumptions. As this AusZEH is created to generate enough ‘zero-emission’ electricity from 6kW solar panels to provide all the operating energy needs to the whole house so that its net total CO2 or other greenhouse gas emissions is zero.
According to the Director of CSIRO’s Energy Transformed Flagship, Dr Alex Wonhas, this zero-emission homes in Australia can be the trend nationwide and an innovative process in accordance with the reducing on emissions. “CSIRO scientists estimate that if all the new housing built in Australia between 2011 and 2020 were zero-emission houses, 63 million tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions would be saved,” Dr Wonhas said.
This CSIRO’s Energy Transformed Flagship started the AusZEH project to show and assess how low-carbon housing can be achieved in Australia to reduce GHG emissions and create a more sustainable future for the nation. For 12 months, the AusZEH demonstration house design will temporary homes in Australia and a laboratory for CSIRO.
