Queensland Homes for Sale to Settle Debts
08/26/2010
Queensland councils have to settle $32 million debt which have not been paid for at least three years.
Moreton Bay Regional Regional Council has about $14 million in overdue rates, Brisbane City Council has around $12.9 million and Logan City Council City has $6.2 million. Redland and Logan City Councils could sell up to 44 homes just to withhold more than $350,000.
Similarly, the Redland City Council considers the sale of 13 homes for them to recover $66, 837.84. Four of the properties for sale can be found on Macleay Island while two are located in Cleveland. Other seven properties are on Rusell Island.
Currently, the Brisbane City Council has 7552 owed rates bills for collection. Based from the data gathered last 2009, 8498 home owners had unpaid bills amounting to $13.3 million.
In the past 12 months, there are no homes have been sold yet by the Queensland Councils.
Mike Hyde, acting chief executive of Redwood City Council, said that the council will always extend its debt levels for those affected ratepayers. They give them chance to settle their debts and keep their homes until the auction.
