Home Display and Garden Show showcases Duct tape Creations

A Switzerland Middle School student has showcased her unique creations at the St. Johns County Home and Garden Show on Saturday. 14-year old Samantha LaFleur has made items which are basically made of duct tape as its main material.

While in her own booth at the said home and garden show, she was seen cutting a strip of black duct tape that, according to her, will be the outer edge of what is going to be a colorful blue, black, and white purse. The said purse is completely made out of duct tape which took her only an hour to accomplish.

LaFleur is the youngest entrepreneur who joined the event at the St. Johns County Agricultural Center. Her business named Duct and Taped sells bow clips, wallets, headband, rose petal pens, and purses are made of duct tape.

Some of the items on sale in her booth is the eye-catching bright yellow petal on top of a pen and a wallet with the British flag across it. The young entrepreneur stated that she has been doing those things for quite some time already that she has learned to make things in so short a time.

As a participant in the same event last year, she stated that she was able to make $100 from selling her hand-made wares. However, this year indicated that business is slow. She attributed it to the rain that has came on and off on Saturday.

The said home and garden show offered a series of lectures the whole day. In attendance was Michael Bowles of the Florida Native Plant Society who gave a talk about the native plants in northeast Florida and gardener Sue Kalter, who in turn talked about the differences in organic and conventional farming.
For interested parties, the home and garden show is still on today at the agricultural center at 3125 Agriculture Drive from 10 a.m. The said event is free for all.
